Sorry, I forgot that the virus uninstalled Norton... long thread...

Do you still get that particular error? If so it would indicate that somewhere some part of Norton is still in there.

I will look up Dell Dimension 5000 online. Do you have the manual?
There is usually a Recovery Disk & or a keyboard option to enter a Recovery partition on your hard drive. F10 I think.

A Recovery should set the computer back to factory condition.
I don't see how it should effect your waranty but it should say something in the manual.

It should just be a matter of a few clicks.
