Angry Computer keeps shuting down & re-booting

    Hi Pipo,

I'm running Win XP on an AMD processor and recently, the PC just began shuting down and rebooting on it's own.

It will work okay when I just switch it on, then it starts acting up. It will post to the "windows" screen, then start all over again. If I leave it off for a while (like 15 mins or so), then switch it on again, it works fine for like 30 to 45 minutes then starts the problem all over again.

The memory is 256mb and it has an 80 gig hard-drive.

    Need some help folks!!!!!

It sounds like a possible failing power supply or an overheating problem. Take the side panel off of the tower and use a can of compressed air to clean all of the dust out. Also check to make sure all of the fans are operating properly. HTH

Another thought, are you getting an error message before the PC shuts down or is it just shutting down without warning?

depending on which board you have, you should try and get a windows-based cpu monitoring application. you should check the manufacturers website (of your mainboard that is). If not, boot into the BIOS and go to the page that shows you all your temps and voltages etc. your main interest will be the cpu temperature. Check the temp when you first boot into the BIOS, go away and have some tea, come back and note the temperature.
also, like Bear says, it may also be your PSU. If youve recently added ANY new hardware, then its possible that your PSU isnt putting out enough amps.
