Hello. I have a very annoying problem!

I have been trying to install a new GeForce FX5700LE card. When I first installed it, it seemed to work fine until I tried to open the "Properties" for the card. Then the screen became black and the computer did not respond. Only way to restart was to hit the reset button.

Doesn't seem to be doing that anymore.... but when I open up certain games (including the one that came with the card) it's all red, and garbled, and just screwed up! The Graphics are just really really messed up. The computer seems to be unstable. It's just not happy!

My OS is WinXP. I have a 1100mhz AMD K7 Athlon XP, AMI BIOS (may need upgraded, but I cannot find an update). Brand new power supply that exceeds the requirements for the card. I have a cd-rom, cd-rw, zip drive installed. No floppy.

MY old video card works fine in it. It's just older and slower And I wanted my games to run a little better. Seems to doing the opposite though. *sigh*

I have run out of ideas and would welcome any input.

Check you meet the requirements for your card:

Pentium® III/4/Celeron™, AMD® Athlon®/Duron® or compatible
with AGP 2.0 or later
128MB of system memory
minimum 300W system power supply

Check you have the latest DirectX version (think its 9b)

Download the latest driver: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_61.77

Make sure that the drivers for your old card are not still lurking around.

I cant comment on your specific card, but most cards have a 'troubleshooting' option or similar, which allows you to decrease the card acceleration. Try taking this down, one step at a time and seeing if the system becomes more stable.
