error message uninstalling xp
i upgraded my winme 2000 to xp pro and then needed to uninstall it. i went to safe mode-add remove programs and told it i was sure i wanted to uninstall and put it back to my previous windows version. during the uninstall the computer restarts once-continues to uninstall and then gives me blue screen error message--stop OxOOOOOO8E(OxCOOOOOO,OxFBOBBFFY,OxOOOOOO) AND SETUPDD.SYS ADDRESS fab30bed base at FAB2D000, Date stamp 3b7d8507.(repeatedly) what does this mean and how do i fix it asap! i would format the hard drive for a reinstall but don't have the winme restore disk or original winme disk. really need to get back to the previous winme windows. thanks in advance to whoever can help me.

When you upgraded to XP did you back-up ME?
I notice this note at the Microsoft Site:
"INTRODUCTION
This article describes how to remove Microsoft Windows XP after an upgrade was completed successfully by using a qualifying upgrade path, including the successful creation of the Windows XP removal files (such as Backup.cab and Boot.cab) during the initial upgrade."
Microsoft Support
My other initial thought is to try to repair install XP, which may fix your problems with XP or may give you a fresh chance to delete it.
Good info here:

yes-i backed up first. i'll look again at the microsoft site but have tried everything from there already. only way i can even get to a command prompt is by putting my win98 boot floppy in and then no commands are valid. i've tried %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe----%systemroot%\system32(enter)osuinst.exe----cd\(enter)cd\windows\system32(enter)osuininst.exe. when i tried to repair the xp it tried to reinstall the whole thing from the beginning but i stopped it because it said it would erase files and i wasn't sure if it meant xp or all and i don't want to loose anything off the winme portion. thanks jephree

Probably your 98 boot disk fails as to the following:
"If the disk is formatted in NTFS, your options for returning to Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows Me are limited. Those operating systems do not read or recognize NTFS, and you cannot convert the disk to use the FAT or FAT32 file system. The bootable disk that you use and the drive on which you want to install Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows Me cannot use NTFS. "
That taken from here
Repair XP details here
I myself have run an XP repair install and lost nothing except all Microsoft updates; you will loose SP1 or SP2 or any Windows updates that you have installed. As to documents & programs I lost nothing.
Just curious why you want to uninstall XP?
Also I found similar error messages but not related to uninstalling XP. Will keep an eye out. Good Luck!
Ps. I did find this Microsoft page from searching your error message:

thanks for the info. didn't want to uninstal-had to. after talking to a tech support guy at ***
who said it was ok... i upgraded my daughters computer from winme(major problems with her windows and no origional or recovery disk) to xp using my xp disk. after installation i found out that i can't activate the windows on her pc without purchasing another license at almost the same cost as new purchase so had to uninstal it. personally i love using xp.

ok; i see; yes that is a problem.
As a worst case scenario I can only suggest calling Microsoft Support.
As the XP owner you are intitled to 2 free sessions, although you will have to pay the phone bill!

Actually I had to call them after my Repair Install of XP as it wouldn't go on-line. Turned out there was an updated registry setting I needed to fix manually. They were right on with my problem and fast. Like 15 minutes.
Anyway; that's always possible
