Can screen saver cause hard drive problems?

There was a article in yestedays paper that said this person had 2 hard drive crashes. She was saying that she thought the screen saver could be the problem. The guy who answered her letter said that it was very possible that her screen saver could indeed cause her hard drive(2 times)to fail 2 times. This is what happened to our computer, the hard drive crashed. If the screen saver can cause this what should I do to the screen saver to avoid this? If I don't use the screen saver what is the best thing to do? Thanks for the help! John

I've never heard of such a thing nor does my searching bring it up.

Can you find this article online? Would love to see it.

    Here is some general info:

    All About Screen Savers

I myself do not use a screen saver but rather use my power options to turn off monitor after 5 mins inactive.

These settings are in Control Panel | Display

    Screensaver: Turn Off

Monitor Power | Power: Turn Off Monitor | After X min etc.

I don't bother with screensavers anymore. Sorry jephree I couldn't be bothered to read the article. Screensavers are just there for people that have nothing better to do. Initially in the "olden days" they were there for a reason..
Screensavers used to come bundled with spyware which did screw up computers. The animated ones do screw mine up. They are hungry for resources. You don't need a screensaver anyway......... unless you are going to sit there all day looking at it.
