Repeated Trouble
I am running windows xp in a University Local Area Network. For a few monthsI have been loosing my internet and my ability to play LAN games but I am able to access my network with ease.I got back my previous settings by restoring my PC to an earlier date.
A few days later my system restore failed. This process has repeated twice giving me no other choice but to reinstall my XP.Now that i have reinstalled my OS twice,I want to make sure this does not happen again.
So if somebody could make out what could be the cause, please help me.I do not want to reinstall my OS again.

Are you running SP2? Do you have a firewall? Anti Virus? Do you use Adaware & or Spybot S&D? Do you scan for viruses?
Just to rule out possible malware & or virus issues please follow owen's Instructions and then post your log in the Spyware, Adware, Viruses and HijackThis Logs section (Not Here).
Also did you download today's Windows Critical Updates? One of which being the monthly Malware Remover.
If it turns out that the issue is other than Malware & or Virus we can pursue it here.
You might want to check your Event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
Or: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or Start/Run/ eventvwr
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. Click error line for details.
Post back the source & event id.

Yes I have up to date McAfee Anti-Virus.I use Ad-aware and Spybot S&D I think my system was free of spywares and malwares. But I did not have SP2 previously This time I have it.I do have internet firewall. My system was free of viruses both the times when I scanned.(I had the problem twice).

Did you check your Event Viewer for Errors that coincide with these failures?

Click the Start button then the Run button & type in: eventvwr
When it opens double click Application & look for any X
Click on any X line to see details.
Post back the Source as well as the Event ID #
Then do the same for the System tab.
