Regsvr32 problems
I use the home edition of XP the Services 1 a pack. I have been using a couple of anti-spyware softwares on my computer such as ad-aware, no adware, Spy bot. When i earlier tried to install any program it wud say "C:\windows\system32\Autoexec.nt . The syystem file is not suitable for running Ms-DOs and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'close' to terminate the application". I fixed the problem by repairing the files from the Xp CD following the instructions on the support site of Microsoft. The problem is now solved but now it comes up with an error message of " Cannot find Shell.dll" . I found that the shell.dll file was present in the C;\windows\sysytem32\Dllcache directory. Next i tried running the command "Regsvr32 C:\Windows\system32\DLLcache\shell.dll" but i get the following error mesage "C:windows\Sysytem32\DLLcache\shell.dll is not an executable file and no registration helper is registered for this file type" Please help

seems like you're on the right path & probably know more about this than me, but i did a little search & found these 2 posts:
1)You can restore the file from c:\windows\system32\dllcache.
2)You obviously have a rogue process that deletes the file.
Apply NTFS permissions to it so that everyone can
read it but no one can modify or delete it. This means that
you need to seize ownership of the file.
#2 replies to the issue of repeated problems.
so what i wonder is rather than the "command" you tried, try to "restore" the file?
i assume that if you find it in cache you can copy paste it into the system 32?
what do you think?
