    Slow PC

    Good Morning,
Just want some advice really. I brought this PC last May, and on a regular basis defrag. I have no virus on my PC, I run spywear remover every night aswell, But Still my PC has the speed of a snail with a brick on its back.

Starting up and closing down is pretty fast, But it's when I ask it to do something simple like open a internet page from clicking the short cut (I use FireFox) .. it can take up to 30 seconds to decide it wants to. (I first thought it might be FireFox, But it does it with IE aswell)

Now although I update and run my virus scan and Spywear Scan every day, I have done other scans (You know these 'Test your PC for free and save it!' things and it normally comes up with about 70 threats .. although I do suspect its just companys ways of making money, because some of the files included Pictures I had taken my self and put right on to the PC from my Digi Camera)

I have heard that keeping alot on your desk top can slow it down, But this is not a issue for me either as I only have 6 Icons on there.

Has anyone got any Idea's .. or know of a decent scan thats going to be truthful with me and not just make up rubbish to get me to pay the company money?

    Many Thanks

    Chelle

Was this a noticable slowdown over time or did it sort of slow all at once?

These two scans are thorough & legit:

    http://www.pandasoftware.com/product..._principal.htm

    They work best using IE.

You might also want to check out CCleaner:

    http://www.ccleaner.com/

You might want to create a Restore Point before using it but I have never had any problem with it.

Let us know how it goes.
