    Problem with compressed folders

For a while now, whenever i download a .zip file and use the extractor to unzip the files, i get an error saying that the file is corrupted or there are no files to extract.

I have only been having this problem over the last few days, and it's really bugging me as i need to unzip tons of fonts and brushes! I'm using Mozilla to download the files, and have been doing so for the past 6 months with no problems until recently.

    Any suggestions?

    Hi

Are you sure the files are downloading fully? If so try downloading WinZip and trying to open the archive with that first.

Thanks for the quick reply! I'm pretty sure the files are downloaded fully because the old files, which have already been used to install software, have also been corrupted. For instance, my FreeRAM XP Prp installer .zip is now corrupt, yet in the past it has been used to install the program of the same name.

OK, can you try downloading and running WinZip?

Winzip has succesfully unzipped the files! Thanks for your help. Trouble is, according to the Winzip site i can only use it for a trial period, is this true?

Yep, you are supposed to purchase it but it will run on trial for a bit. That is really a tempoary fix as Windows XP obviously has an issue for whatever reason with ZIP files on your machine so it would be worth trying to get to the bottom of it.

    Hello All,
I had the same problem and found this site. Just thought I'd post what I learned about Lloyd's original problem. This is a "not enough resources problem". I know there's a memory leak in one program I use and I'll bet the problem started there for me. Somone also suggested it could happen when your hard disk was too full--but that couldn't be the cause in my case.

I rebooted and everything started working again. (I could extract files using the windows extraction tool.)
