when my lap top was turned off, i removed the floppy disk drive and inserted the cd drive. now when i turn my computer on a blue message comes up saying to prevent damage to your computer windows has shut down. it explains that it is an unmountable booting volume and it says that this could be caused by a quick hardware or software change and to restart my computer or remove the hardware or software by using safe mode. i have done all this and still the message comes up help please.

What is the make & model of the laptop?
Pardon my confusion but when you say: "i removed the floppy disk drive and inserted the cd drive." Do you mean you physically removed the floppy drive & installed a CD drive?
Have you done this before?
Have you tried returning the hardware configuration to the last one that worked & then from safe mode options try "Last known good configuration"?
Also could you post the exact error message please.

Also, make and model of the Latitude would be greate, is it a CP, CPa, CPi, CPt etc. I repaired these as a hobby while working at dell. An incompatible or damanged module will cause this in a CP.
