    little advice on computer overheating

    hey,
well i have just built a new computer: well the story is i leave it on 24-7 when im around i have alot of fans to keep it cool, but i was wandering if its wise to leave it on when im going away for a week to download something is this a good idea or not:

my processer is an AMD sempron 2600+ so it does get quiet warm

    cheers

use everest to check temps....you should be able to find it quite easily googling it.

check to make sure your temps actually improve situation....it has been known for bad fan placement to make things worse.

if fans are effective....try runnin at full speed (louder but more efficient)

    another fix would be....press control+alt+delete
    cancel any unnecessary processes......KEEP system
    KEEP network service
    KEEP explorer.exe

not sure what others you can cancel.....try googling this as there's a prog which cancels all but essential processes. this method does work as each process uses some of the cpu power. they also use ram meaning that more ram will be freed.

i do a similar thing to you with a p4 cable modem and often find that after ending unnecessary processes my download speed slightly increases

hope its been some help. russ

oh yeah, forgot to mention....try geeting fresh air to it by taking cover off

what sort of temps do you get? it SHOULD be around 40C

inside my case ( usually with case side panel off ) i get around 40C and processor is usually up around 55c

u can change ur fan speed in bios but im not sure how to do it.....i can tell u how 2 access ur bios but thats about it! lol

try googling runnin temps for amds.....i kno there different to intels

try downloading speedfan (422 i think)........www.guru3d.com this allows you to change fan speed (although on mine is only temporarary, however on yours it might not be.

o yea...as a guide for fans.........FRONT + SIDE should suck air in AND BACK AND TOP should blow it out

also, try googling 'pc cooling' as it is a MASSIVE aspect of overclockers

lemme know how you get on
