hey, i just installed windows xp and everything worked fine, but now a bunch of stuff is messing up, it freezes when i go to "turn off, restart" windows saves all my settings and shutsdown but then the screen just goes black. I can no longer save hjt logs, and adaware personel wont even start-up. If ne one knows how to fix ne of these that would be awesome, but if not could someone tell me how i can reformat and re-install windows xp? thanks a million...

so you're saying it wont restart but shuts-down? then you can power-on?

have you tried uninstalling/ reinstalling adaware?

what happens when you use hijack this?

do you have a restore point before things went wrong?

-it worked for sometime, i uninstalled ad-aware before upgrading
-when i restart it does everything but then just freezes on a black screen before booting up
-even when i uninstall then reinstall adaware it says something like definitions unavailable
-when i use hijack this i can scan, but i cant save the log, when i hit save log an error message pops up and a blank notepad is saved.

there is no previous restore point

start > all programs > accessories > system tools > System Restore

Do you have System Restore activated? Right click "My Computer" > Properties > System Restore

Are you getting any specific error messages?
Maybe want to look at the Event Viewer:
In xp Pro the event viewer is under Administrative Tools or in home or pro go to Start > Run & type in eventvwr.msc
Under Applications look for errors.

Otherwise you just might have to re-install.

i think i am just going to reinstall
i am going to wait until i get a new cdrom and floppy i ordered tho so i will post the updates after i try to reinstall
