Hi everyone, this is my first post hope someone can help.
I've updated my pc by way of tower, mobo, processor, memory, heatsink and fan.(AMD Sempron 2600+,512mb),and used my existing hd,floppy and graphics card.
Everything works fine.
But because my sister-in-law has an old amd 500mhz i said i would upgrade hers by letting her have my old setup (AMD 1.2gig,gigabyte mobo,356mb)and install her hd,floppy etc.
BUT xp will not install, here are some of the ever increasing list of problems it throws at me.....
Line 153 of the INF file \i386\textsetup.siff is invalid.
NTLDR is missing.
I also get to the "please wait while setup examines your hardware configuration" screen but it just hangs on that screen.
Sorry to go on but this is really bugging me,this will be the fourth pc i have built and never had problem like this before.
Thanks in advance for any help on this
cheers

Are you install over an older windows?
"NTLDR is missing" error message when you install or upgrade Windows XP over Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows Millennium Edition
No, it will be a clean install on a newly formatted hdOriginally Posted by jephree

Are you sure the drive is working ok?

Hi jephree,i am sure it is not the hd as i used to have it in my system running xp with no problems.
I was also thinking it could be a hardware problem and have tried taking out the sound card, modem, mem etc one by one but to no avail.
I have had problems installing xp before but it has allways started to install,it wont even start installing on this system.
I just wonder if something on the drive is conflicting.
You say it had XP on it previously?
Have you completely wiped the drive?
I connected the hd to my current system and formatted it using windows.
I assume this would completley wipe the drive would'nt it?.
Any way i have downloaded the boot drives from m,soft and created 6 floppies, which i am going to try now.
Will let you know how i get on,but i will be grateful for anymore ideas just incase.

Heres whats happening now...
I've tried using the six floppy boot option, but when i get to the 3rd disk i get the message File setupdd.sys could not be loaded the error code is 4 setup cannot continue.![]()
I have tried again to boot from cd but it is still hanging on the "Setup is inspecting your hardware config"i have left it over an hour but nothing happens.
I have noticed when i set first boot drive to cdrom in bios, after searching for boot from cdrom a screen pops up saying...Starting Windows,Running Whome.dat,No emulation type image (raw) 0000080000000001,Press any key to boot from cd.
Is this usual when booting from cd?
Well would you believe it,it turned out to be the CDROM Drive![]()
I swapped drives as a last resort and xp installed with no problems.
So don't forget folks to check the cdrom drive if you ever have trouble installing xp.
Thanks for all your replys
