Hi --
I'm trying to download JRE, but I keep getting the file as a document instead of an .exe. Is it something I'm doing wrong?
Where/ What are you trying to download?
Have you tried this link:
The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications
Yes, I have. And J2SE 1.4.2. also. The automatic download didn't work for me. I only get the "save" file option for the manual download, both on and offline. The problem is the file I'm offered to save is a document file not an executable.
what happens when you click this:
http://192.18.97.147/ECom/EComTicket...ows-i586-p.exe
Same result: "jre-1_5_0_02-windows-i586-p" without the .exe
What browser are you using?
I.E.6 in XP Pro
What happens if you right click the link & choose "Save Target As"?
the only issue I see via search is:
Netscape-Style Plug-ins Do Not Work After Upgrading Internet Explorer
If it is only .exe files, then read on and see if this is relevant:
Remove the plugin with Regedit.exe
Start/Run menu applet execute: Regedit.exe
Navigate down to this key and remove it, after exporting it as a normal
safety precaution.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Plugins\Extension\.exe
If that key exists, then you will see what plugin has been installed. The
key does not normally exist.

Same result as above with "Save Target As."
I checked the registry, there are no Netscape-Style plugins listed.
Thanks for trying.
Did this just strat happening? Any changes that might coincide?
Any new Firewalls & or settings?
