hyperlinks freeze applications
I'm experiencing a problem that has been discussed in other usergroups and has been addressed by MSDN documents, but I haven't found a solution.
The problem: If I click on a URL within OE or Word, the application freezes. If I click on a hyperlink on a web page IE *might* freeze. One place where a freeze occurs is www.cancer.org after clicking on the "cancer chat room" link. By 'freeze' I mean I have to kill OE, Word or IE in the Task Manager (the mouse icon (whadda ya call that arrow thingey?) always looks like a hand. Someone in another forum said that that web site uses Java for that hyper-link.
What I have tried:
- run regsvr32 on these dlls: urlmon.dll.
Shdocvw.dll. Msjava.dll. Actxprxy.dll. Oleaut32.dll. Mshtml.dll. Browseui.dll. Shell32.dll, vbscript.dll, jvscript.dll.
- run sfc/scannow (nothing showed up except a progress bar, but I'm not sure what I was supposed to see)
- reloaded the scripting engine.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...ist/webdev.asp
- Verified that the java engien is OK
http://www.fitwise.com/testjava.asp
- run sigverif
Adaware and CounterSpy regularly find almost no spyware, except for repeated recurrences of that nasty WindUPdate. But I have the problem whether or not it is present.
Any ideas?

Well, I installed SP 2 and the problem is solved in IE, OE and Word!
I had postponed doing it because I'd read that SP 2 could freeze if your PC was already infected with something - so I wanted to solve this problem first.
