XP Registry problem?
I have recently (misguidedly!) completed a Registry Cleanup with a new "cleaning" program which did not seem to have the facility to reverse any changes made. This program now Deleted!. Beware of these Programs.
All seems to be well except the front buttons on my Canoscan 8000F Scanner which previously took me to the Canoscan Toolbox now refuse to work. If I start the Toolbox manually I can perform all the functions as normal. I have contacted Canon and followed all the "uninstall" and "reinstall" suggestions for thier software but to no avail. It's not a serious but frustrating problem. I have tried a "System Restore" but no luck.
Any ideas?

What was this "clean up programe?"

When you did the install reinstall, did you ensure all related files & folders were deleted? before reinstall, if not try that.

Thanks for the responses. The program is called RegSeeker and although it does have a "backup before running" option it doesn't appear to have done its job. I did a complete delete of all files via Control Panel including the Toolbox and the Scanner Driver. As I say it's more frustrating than critical but I'd love to get to the bottom of it. The front buttons on the scanner work fine when connected to my laptopp by the way.

I have used RegSeeker for years with no problem & actually recommend it quite often.
That being said: Besides removing the program from add/remove you should then do a search from start | search & delete all finds there. Then reinstall.

Thanks for the response - what do you suggest I use to search with and what should I look for? Sorry to require specific instructions but learning all the time!

click the Start button then the Search on the right side of the menu.
after removing Toolbox and the Scanner Driver search for Toolbox or Canoscan; however the program was refered to. Add/Remove programs from the Control Panel usually leaves Program Files that often conflict with reinstallation if not manualy removed.
Before searching go to - Control Panel - Folder Options - View - tick Show Hidden Files & Folders
And in the search window click "More Advanced Options" & check everything (except "case sensitive") including Search System Files & Search Hidden Files

Hmmmmmm! Done as you suggested and nothing found after Toolbox & Driver Removal. Also did a (cautious) search in the registry for same but nothing found. Did a reinstall and scanner working fine EXCEPT for front buttons - most frustrating. I can access all functions by manually starting the Toolbox so don't spend a great deal of time on this - others have much more serious problems.

In the manual it states that: "In order for these buttons to work you must have installed: ScanGear CS, CanoScan Toolbox, ArcSoft, Photobase, & Presto! Page Manager from the software CD."
Any help?
