    Re: XP Registry problem?

I wish it was that simple Jephree - all have been uninstalled and reinstalled and the "events" under the Canoscan "properties" have been set to their default settings and applied. I have also tried setting the events to different programs but with no success. It's a complete mystery.

hmmm... can only speculate from here.

When you say you tried System Restore: Was it successfull? But buttons still didn't work?

Are you running Pro or Home? SP1 or 2?

Do you have a full version XP CD or an OEM repair?
If the former: insert disk & type in the Run box: sfc /scannow
This will check & replace System Files.
If the latter: What is the exact make & model of the computer?
We can look up their recovery method.

Do you have the latest updates from Windows Updates? Which version of DirectX do you have? Found via Start | Run | dxdiag

Sorry to be so long in replying - have been away from the "beast" for a few days. In reply:

System Resore successfull but buttons still didn't work
    XP Pro SP2
    sfc /scannow run OK
Windows Updates automatically applied (and checked)
    DirectX Version 9.0c

Please don't wast too much time on this - others need help! but thanks for your perceverence.

Got it, used it, gave up with it! Thanks for the added assistance but the little begger still won't respond to my digits tickling her buttons! I'll just have to put up with manually opening the toolbox I guess unless I opt for the new Epson 4990 - now there's a thought.....................

UPDATE Just completed a Repair Install of Windows XP to cure another problem my dodgy digits created (must remember - read the **** manual). Downloaded the latest Driver remover, Driver file and Scangear file from the US Canon website and voila! my buttons work again. Thanks to all for the perceverance. I wish I knew what was up the creek but never mind. Thanks again. This thread can be closed.
