    Mouse trouble

I do not seem to have a great deal of mouse pointer control / co ordination as I am continually having to spin the mouse control to gain control of the pointer. It is a basic packard bell mouse.

I HAVE RE INSTALLED IT WASHED THE BALL ETC ETC.................HELP

All the XP settings are found via Control Panel | Mouse

But sounds to me like a dying mouse.

I suggest getting a laser mouse.

Cleaning the roller ball isn't sufficient in itself -- you also have to clean the lint accumulation off the various rollers in the socket.

I agree that the optical mouse is preferable.

Hedging all bets, I keep an old serial-port mouse attached and tucked away behind the console -- it works in DOS and in Safe Mode when the others refuse to.

Is the mouse installed in a PS/2 port? Is it wireless as in the mousepad is wired to the computer and the mouse is free?

F Y I , I just installed a new microsoft cordless keyboard and mouse. I was freaking out when it would to stop moving. Everytime it would stop i had to push the Undo button. That would work for a few seconds or a couple of min? Then I realized that when cleaning up my wires in back that I had put the reciever for the cordless system on top of my dsl modem. When i removed the reciever the problem stopped. Whew, No virus , no sys. config. problem .
