I installed XP Home recently, all worked fine. After a week my CRT monitor blew,so I got a new LCD,this installed fine. After a week when I switch on I get the log on screen ok this goes, then nothing. If I press the re-set button to re-start & select start normally,it works fine.I have the refresh at 60 Hertz
Any hel very welcome.

Check your Device Manager under Display as well as Monitor.
Device Manager: RT click My Computer then click Manage then Device Manager for any "!"
Also check via the Control Panel | Display
When you say "re-set" are you re-setting the computer or the monitor?
When you say you re-start normally it works fine; are you saying you just have to start up twice? Where are you selecting a startup type? Are you going thru the Safe Mode Option screen?

Thanks to both.I have double checked all cables, all tight.
I looked in Device Manager,no errors,& Control Panel at Display, which shows refresh at 60 Hertz.
By re-set I mean I re-start with the front button on the CPU.I am saying I have to start up twice. The second is through the Safe Mode Option screen.
Any more ideas please?

I would suggest reinstalling your graphics card drivers. Do you happen to have or know what your drivers are? If not can you ID your card? We can then look it up.
With drivers in hand this is the standard process to reinstall:
Boot the computer to Safe Mode options (F8 after BIOS) & choose:
"Enable VGA Mode".
Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs.
Find your graphics card driver package & uninstall.
While in Control Panel, go to System, Hardware, Device Manager.
Expand (Click +) besides Display Adapter,
Right Click your graphics card, Choose Properties, Drivers, uninstall.
Reboot the Machine - It will re-detect your graphics card.
Then re-install the drivers.

Thanks for this,I have been unable to access the site for a day or so.The driver for my nVidia Ti4200 6.14.10 5673 with AGP8X a Windows certified.I believe this loaded with XP? So,if I do as you suggest will the system on re.boot find this driver & install?I'd hate to be without graphics!
Thanks,

Do you have a software/ installation CD for that card?
This is the nvidea driver page although I don't see that exact model.
http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp
XP will recognise the card but it would be best to have the nvidea drivers.
If you don't have an original CD see if you can find your model above.
