XP Hard Drive Size

Re: XP Pro HDD size problem ?
Continueing this thread.
I am trying to determine if my bios (Asus P4S8X) can access drives above 127Gb.
I have XP with SP2 installed, Having checked my atapi.sys file it shows as ver. 5.1.2600.2180.
MS Knowledge Base 303013 shows it should be ver 5.1.2600.1135. Is this due to the SP2 instal, and KB 303013 has not been amended.
Can any one advise me if my bios can read hard drives above the 127Gb limit

You should have no problem.
SP2 overrides MS Knowledge Base 303013. ver 5.1.2600.1135 or later.
you have: ver. 5.1.2600.2180. This is SP2. No problem.
And the motherboard should be just fine. The latest BIOS was P4S8X BIOS 1005.
But there is no need to upgrade unless you have some problem.
In the BIOS Setup you can see your drives & how they report.
You also have the Option of Serial ATA or RAID on that board.
Are you having any problems with your drives?
Are they not showing their full capacity?

Thanks Jephree.
I am considering buying a (Maxtor) second hard drive configured as a primary slave to use for backups, photos and video's as my present 60Gb Maxtor drive is becoming full.
It works fine but I thought it a waste of money to buy a larger drive than my bios can read.
