I receive an error stating CTHelper MFC has run into a problem and will not start.

I cannot hear any audio - all file types think they are playing but I cannot hear anything

Try reinstalling the drivers for your sound card. Sounds like your using a Creative soundcard. Go to http://www.creative.com/ and download and install the latest drivers for your card.
