windows xp major problems help please
this is my last hope. i run aol 9.0 on windows xp.6 month old basic dell computer. i downloaded real player 2 days ago and it told me to turn my pc off to complete install. when i turned it on all i had was my screen saver.
i went in through pressing cntrl alt and delete into windows manager and clicked new file etc. i went into aol but it was all very very very slow and the egg timer was constantly next to my cursor. my cpu usage is 100% and it is constantly doing over 100 proceses!!! i rang aol for help and i tried it in safe mode(turn off start up pressing f8 and still wouldnt run it. i eventually did a mcafee virus search after hrs and it came up with 23 viruses through windows but my pc was so screwed up i couldnt complete anything and had to constantly keep turning pc off and on again.
after numerous disk clean ups etc it is now back to full speed but i still have no icons or start button or anything found on main page. i go to new task in windows manager to right click on desktop to get my icons up but i cant do it because its a different heading and all it says is whats this!
ive been told its a windows bug etc and i have to take it to a shop to get fixed. i know there are alot of wizkids gona read this so rather than me take it to a shop and rip me ooff can some1 please run through what i need to do. i have no windows xp cd so cant re install.
thank you in advance
a very worried

You have no "recovery" CD's?
Do you have the Dell Manual? If so can you look up the "Recovery" process?
What is the Dell model name & #?
Can you do anything from Safe Mode? System Restore?
-

i dont have the manual either

Hey, I may be the stoopid one
But as I read this first option it does not ask for the disk.
How Do I Use the Dell™ PC Restore by Symantec Utility?
Run the Dell PC Restore Utility
1.
Power the computer on.
2.
When the Dell screen appears press and hold the Ctrl key on the keyboard, press the F11 key, then release them both at the same time.
The Dell PC Restore by Symantec window appears.
NOTE NOTE: Only press the keys one time, if you press them more than once you will receive a keyboard error and will have to start the process over.
3.
Click the Restore button.
A caution message appears advising that all data will be lost.
4.
Click the Confirm button.
The progress window appears.
When the restore is complete the message The system recovery process was successful. appears.
5.
Click the Finish button.
The computer will restart.
Your software is now back to the way it was when you first received your computer.

Just make sure of the following:
NOTE: Only press the keys one time, if you press them more than once you will receive a keyboard error and will have to start the process over.
I also note that this function only applies to machines produced post 07-04.

What about the warranty?
Otherwise you can contact Dell to purchase the CD's.
Otherwise: Have you tried all options from F8? Such as Command Prompt?
System Restore via Cmd. Prompt: %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe
Otherwise if you can still get into Windows: Have you tried a Restore from within Windows?
Or please refresh us as to the current nature of your Windows & perhaps we can find something else.
