    CDRW driver?

Win xp. Unknown make of cd writer.
I have a similar problem to that sent in by swalls.
The cd writer has worked fine for years but now doesn't read cds.If I open drive "D"-nothing BUT if I leave a cd in the tray when rebooting it reads perfectly. Is this a driver fault or what. The driver in use is
microsoft 5.1.2535.0 if this is any help.
    Anybody got any ideas please

    Thanks for your reply.
The device manager says the device is working properly.
I also have a Mat****a DVD_ROM ,set up as slave ,this is working OK.
Is it possible that the set up configs have changed somehow?( I don't really know what that means but i read it somewhere!) and the cd/r is not recognised except at startup and how do I cure this.

just to offer a test of the drives I would try each one alone just to see if they work alone.

i am seeing alot of issues with dvd & cd drives on the same cable but i'm not an expert in the least here, just seeing alot of problems.

also: are the jumpers set to master slave or cable select?

In case anyone is interested I solved this by getting a new cd burner. So it turned out to be a hardware problem after all.
    Thanks for the help.
