    i'm missing system restore

hi everybody, for some reason my computer (win xp he) has lost the system restore start up ability. when i press programs, accessories, system restore nothing happens. i've been reading some of the other posts and have tried some of the things like turning it off and on again and using (rightly or wrongly) that little program AccRestore but it still isn't there. any help getting this back to where it belongs would be most appreciated.

sorry about this guys i haven't read all the posts properly. i'll do all i can and if i can't do it myself then i'll get back in touch.

    thanks

Do you get any error or just "nothing"?

This is a good overview of system restore:

    System Restore for Windows XP

    & also just another checkpoint:

If you are using XP Pro, go to Start/Run, type: GPEDIT.MSC and press
    ENTER.

    Navigate to, Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/System/System
Restore. In the right side window, double click System Restore and Enable
    it.

If you are using XP Home, go to Start/Run, type: Regedit and press ENTER.
    Navigate to this key:

    HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current
    Version\SystemRestore

Look for the value: Value DisableSR. If it is set to "1" double click the
value and change it to "0".

hi jephree, thanks for helping. i've read your reply and checked out that marvellous link you gave me. there is so much info out there. you guys do a brilliant job helping people like us get our pc's up and running again. i checked that all that registry stuff was correctly valued and it was so i left everything well alone. but unfortunately i'm still system restoreless. so here is a little more info for you. when i press my system restore message i get the message 'marscore.dll not found' now when i do a search for it i can find it (although for some reason it's in capital letters) in the system32\dll cache. so it is there just not very happy. lol. one more thing i d/loaded a program called Analogx dll archive and proceeded to put the recommended dll's it had found to be useless into an archive. everything has worked brilliantly so far but i'm now begining to wonder whether there is something in there that system restore needs.

i hope from this new info that now you may be able to sort my problem out.

    thanks in advance

The only thing that works is to 'restore all' in the DLL ARCHIVE program. I tried all the other tips but nothing worked. Also affected are system restore, switch users and maybe some others I did not find. I know Analogx gave a caveat but it was not that clear.
