    Unhappy Help with external HD

Hi I have just purchased a Archos Qdisk 60gig external hard drive plugged it in to my usb, wi xp picked up on it and installed it and confirmed ready to use
I also got a message about Hi speed device in a non hi speed port and it would run slower. On going into "my Comp" there is no icon to use the disk, I have tried reinstalling, updating drivers, downloading drivers from Archos website everything I can think of, Can anyone help

    is it formatted?

if it is not formatted, then it will not show up in my computer. to format the
disk you must use disk management. click start, control panel,
administrative tools and select 'computer management'. from within the
computer management mmc console, click 'disk management' and, in the right
pane, you should see all drives installed on your computer, including all
hard drives and optical drives. find the external drive, right click
it and select 'format' (if format is not available, then click 'initialize'
to initialize the disk, they try format again). this should launch a wizard
to walk you through partitioning/formatting the disk. once complete, the new
partition should show up in my computer/explorer just like any other hard
    drive.
