    XP install probs

I Don't know if this is the right place for this question but here goes..

At the moment I have a 40 gig HDD on this pc...yesterday I put in a 80 gig and did a partition of about 15 gig to put windows etc on.

I loaded OK but kept coming up with errors" couldn't load installer for CD ROM contact your hardware vendor for assistance"..

when I tried booting from the new HDD I get the message NTLDR couldn't open drive ??

It's maybe something silly but last night it did my head in..

    Is this the exact error:
    Couldn't open drive multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)
    NTLDR: Couldn't open drive multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1) ?

The computer does not start after you change the active partition by using the Disk Management tool

    Which basically says:

Use a Win98 boot disk to boot the computer, and run FDISK Use FDISK to set
    the boot partition as Active.

If you don't have a 98 startup disk, the files to create one can be
    downloaded from www.bootdisk.com

    Also:

start computer with cd-rom support [with xp cd] enter the

recovery console and At the Command Prompt type the

following (where "X" is your CD-Rom drive letter)

allowing the files to overwrite the old files
    COPY X:\i386\NTLDR C:
    COPY X:\i386\NTDETECT.COM C:

    Also:

Make sure your jumpers are set right.
