Hi. I'm new to the forum so I don't know if this has been addressed before. I run XP Home on my personal home computer. From time to time the machine slows down and when I look at the prosesses runing the system tells me the CPU usgae is 100%. The list of processes shows winword.exe taking up something like 97% of CPU use although Word is not running as a program. It seems that when it is shut down it appears to shut down but not as far as the operating system is concerned. Any ideas??

I recommend you download and install Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel and remove any office entries from startup. HTH
