Can't Double-Click!!
Well, I can physically double-click, but doing so will not open programs or linked files. This is the case on the desktop, control panel...basically anywhere where an icon links to a program or file. The program/file will open if I right click on the icon and select Open.
I've deleted the icon cache, no change. Update the mouse driver...no change. Interestingly enough, in control panel I went to where you can change the mouse properties thinking the speed was set way too high. I put it on the slowest possible setting, and double clicked on the little practice folder but nothing happened. It's almost as if it's the mouse, not the icon??
Any thoughts?

Have you tried another mouse ?
what about switching over the mouse keys in button configuration ?
all the best

Similar Question, does the mouse pointer when clicked highlight the Icons?
-
Tried a different mouse and changed the button configuration...no change unfortunately.
Yes, the pointer does highlight the icon.
Thanks to both of you for helping me out!

Have you tried uninstalling and re-installing the mouse?.

When you right click you get the normal menus correct? What type of mouse is it? MS Mouse, Kensington? No name? I know it seems like a stretch, but you said you have replaced the mouse already. The Idea forming is to not just uninstall but to remove the mouse from the Device manager. Let the system completely re-detect the mouse.

Removed the mouse from the device manager, shut down, plugged the mouse back in - it automatically detected the mouse. Same problem, though.
To answer the other questions, when I right click, I get the normal menu, and I am able to launch the program/file by clicking open.
It is a Dell optical mouse that came with the pc.

Have you tried out the PS2 connection (assuming your PC has one.)
