CD recording problems.
I can no longer copy or move files to CD in Windows Explorer. I just get an error message. I believe the drive is physically OK, since I can record to it using RECORD NOW, it also reads OK. My PC is a Compaq Presario S3150 UK with Windows XP Home (SP2 installed).

What is the error message?
-
The error message is......
Cannot copy *filename*; Files on this CD-Rom drive are read only. You cannot copy or move files over to this CD-Rom drive.
When I open MY COMPUTER the F drive is shown correctly as CD-RW but when I insert an appendable disc the display in MY COMPUTER shows the disc as CD-ROM.

Do you have more than one CD or DVD drive?
Were you ever able to do what you are trying to do while Record Now was installed?
Am wondering if Record Now has maybe made some changes
Do you have any other CD or DVD software installed?
What are your auto play settings?
-
I have a DVD Rom drive and a CD-RW drive.
RECORD NOW came with the new PC.
I only have what came with the PC, WinDVD 4.
I looked at my AUTOPLAY settings and I have it set to request what action to take when a disc is inserted.
I notice that when I right-click the CD-RW icon in MY COMPUTER and look in PROPERTIES there are just four tabs, GENERAL, AUTOPLAY, HARDWARE and SHARING. When I look in HARDWARE the device is shown as a STANDARD CD-ROM Drive.

Did this drive ever work properly? Also is this computer still under waranty?
Can you see how the BIOS POST reads your drives?
Are you comfortable with opening your computer?
If so; see if the CD & DVD drives are on the same cable. Also which is Master & which is slave? Perhaps disconnect the DVD & set the CD-RW to the master position just to see if that chages anything. You might have to change the jumpers if your CD-RW is currently set to slave.

The PC is out of guarantee. The drive worked fine. I could drag and drop files and folders in WINDOWS EXPLORER. Before I consider taking out my screwdriver could you tell me how to see how the BIOS POST reads the drives.
