boot up beeps
when i first log into windows and the software is loading there are a few short beeps then thats it...could anyone tell me whats wrong?......
-
What makes you think something is wrong?
Did this just start happening?
When your programs open; anti virus; firewall; etc. they will trigger system sounds which could be "beeps".
These sounds can be changed or stopped but they are normal.
If it is something else try looking in the
event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. click error line for details. post back the source & event id especially of errors that seem to coincide with a boot.
-
the only way to be sure to know if anything is wrong is to look at your mobo manual and there should be a section on what the beeps mean coming from your mobo.

ok guys...ty, ill have a look....post back with findings....

ever since i flashed my bios on abits flash utility my system has been stable but a bit slow...just discovered that my athlonxp 2600+ is now coming up as a 2200+...of course the two sticks of 512 mb i have there is no longer coming up in bios as ddr333 but ddr266.....does anyone know how to reverse this or fix it?...may thx in advance.....
-
Go into your Bios and change your memory timings to 333 from 266. Your MB Manual should show you how to do that.
-
cheers for the reply...will try that...will that sort out the processor confusion too?
-
Yes, my understanding is the MB bases the CPU speed off of the FSB speed.

i had the same problem, its because theres something wrong with ur comp.
The beeps you are hearing (endless loops) are most likely, overheating CPU, or badly seated Memory.
This depends on the type of Bios you have, here are the Award bios beeps
and a link for other types of Bios....at the bottom of this post
Beeps Error Message Description
1 long
2 short Video adapter error Either video adapter is bad or is not seated properly. Also, check to ensure the monitor cable is connected properly.
Repeating (endless loop) Memory error Check for improperly seated or missing memory.
1 long
3 short No video card or bad video RAM Reseat or replace the video card.
High frequency beeps while running Overheated CPU Check the CPU fan for proper operation. Check the case for proper air flow.
Repeating High/Low CPU Either the CPU is not seated properly or the CPU is damaged.
Here is a link for most bios beeps in general use nowadays, and possible causes.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I had the same problem of one long, three short beeps and voila, I reinserted the video card and all is perfect.
This is the second time I get results from one site.
