I have been using a sony dvd burner to burn both cdr's and dvd's. Everything has worked great until I reformatted my HD. Now It will only play, but not burn. I've had the same results with Nero 6 and Windows media player. (for music)

I have already tried reinstalling nero. Windows device manager settings say device is working properly no new drivers available etc. I have disabled firewall also. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried uninstalling nero & letting the xp cd wizard handle things?

Thanks for your suggestion. I tried it but had the same type of error.

Later I reinstalled the mainboard drivers. There was on optional one which I had previously installed this time I didn't. Now the burner is burning. I am able to copy filesto cd-r, however when I try to do a dvd+r, the computer crashes after it has been burning for a while. (I use dvd shrink) It's a shuttle Mainboard with nforce2 ultra 400 chipset
