I bought an HP w/Philips cd/dvd rw combo drive AND dvd drive (both internal and factory). Both were in fine working order. Now cd/dvd rw drive will play and detect dvd's and burn, but no cd's are recognized. Event viewer gives me errors "11" and "51". Replaced IDE cable (it wouldn't burn before, but will now that I have replaced the cable). All of this started suddenly. Can't play games that I could before. No more automatic startup (no startup at all). Can anyone tell me what might have happened or give me some suggestions? Oh, I should mention that now all the sudden, I have a third drive (K) that I didn't have before labeled "CD rom". HELP!

Must say too that prior to all this, I got "pinged" in a chat room with a repeating bot. Could this be a culprit?

What are the "Source" of errors 11 & 51?
Did you replace the cable because of this problem or before?
What do you see in the Device Manager as per these (3?) drives? Properties.
Also just rt. clicking from My Computer check the Properties. Especially the K: drive.

As to troubleshooting I would disconnect both drives & reboot.
Shutdown.
Then connect just the one cd/dvd rw & see what happens.

Also watch you BIOS POST & see how the drives are listed/ detected.
