PC restarts when I attempt to run a game
I recently upgraded my graphics card, from an onboard one, to a nvidia geforce fx 5700. Ever since I upgraded, I am unable to view games, or even some video files. When I attempt to run them, my computer either freezes or restarts. I have tried upgrading the drivers, but this made no difference. Also, the graphics card is not faulty, I have tried 2 different ones. The computer is quite new, I have only had it for around 6 months or so.
I ran the forums hardware scan, here are the results:

Go into System properties and disable the automatic rebooting of the system so that you can see what the error is that is causing the problem.
Either Right click on my computer properties or start, settings, control panel, system.
Now go to advanced and click on the settings button for Startup and Recovery.
Uncheck "Automatically restart"
Now do what you usually do to cause the restart.

Now this message is coming up, when I try and run a game:
No Label
OS: Windows XP 5.1 (Build: 2600)

Please enable Direct3D acceleration. You can do this by starting dxdiag and enabling Direct3D Acceleration in the Display1/2 tab after installing DirectX 8.1b (or later) and the latest drivers for your graphics card.
-
You need to install DirectX 9.0
DirectX 9.0c End-User Runtime
Then check your settings via Start > Run > dxdiag
Under Display as per your error message: enable 3D Acceleration
-
Ok, I downloaded DirectX then went into dxdiag and looked at the display settings. I took a screenshot of what came up:

They say to update your drivers. There seems to be one newer than what you have: seems to be the same # but 11 days difference in the release date.
Maybe worth a try.

I tried that, didn't make a difference. Still exactly the same thing.

Did you disable your onboard chip?
You should see it in device manager. It probably needs to be disabled.
When I upgraded to a card I needed to disable onboard & then reinstall the card drivers.
-
I disabled it in device manager before I put my new one in.
-
In your first post you said: "Also, the graphics card is not faulty, I have tried 2 different ones." Have you tried the other one now that you have DirectX 9.0?
Can you confirm from dxdiag (system) that you installed 9.0 successfuly?
Any new error messages?
Have you looked in the event viewer for video related errors?
event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. click error line for details. post back the source & event id especially of errors that seem to coincide with a crash.
