    Random Resets/BSD

I was getting random resets maybe once every 1 to 2 weeks, but last week I moved my computer to a different room and now I get them anywhere from once every few days to 6 in 2 hours. The only thing that changed was that I went from a Netgear RP614V2 router to a Linksys WRT54G V2.2.

The event viewer lists the following errors:

This one I get most often:

The last 4 errors happen within 2 seconds with error 4 first, then 3, 2, 1.

I ran memtest86 for 7 hours and it found no errors (after 13 loops). The system is also not overheating and there are no power fluctuations shown in Asus PCProbe.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Is the puter restarting or freezing?

If restarting change this setting in order to get a more complete error message:

rt. click My Computer then click Properties then Advanced then Startup and Recovery Settings then unclick Automatically restart

    As to the event errors:

System Error 1003 Error code 1000007f = "UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP_M" - The first parameter displayed on the blue screen specifies the trap number. Trap number 0x00000000, or Divide by Zero Error, may indicate memory corruption. Other hardware problems, or software failures can cause this error. See the the link to Bug Check codes for more explanations about various trap numbers.

Most of the problems leading to this event indicate faulty hardware, bugs in device drivers or incompatible hardware.

A troubleshooting approach from a newsgroup post: "Boot from CD to start the Recovery Console, then read setuplog.txt, and setupapi.log, to see what happens when it boots.

DCOM 10005: As per Microsoft: "These error messages are generated because another application, such as Microsoft Transaction Server, has already started the Dcom (the Distributed Component Object Model) Service. These messages do not indicate an actual problem and are benign." The recommended solution is to install the latest Service Pack

Service Control Manager 7000: A general note about this event - potentially any service may cause this to be recorded so there could be 1000s of variants. Missing or corrupted files, insufficient rights, missing registry entries, antivirus software, faulty hardware, software bugs and probably many other reasons may cause a service to fail in the starting process. The Service Control Manager that handles the startup of services simply records the failure.

My computer is restarting and I disabled that per your instructions.

Here are a few more details:

When I get the System Error 1003 I get a message after reboot that it was caused by a driver (of course doesn't way which). I looked up that error code and I found too many possible causes for it that I have NO clue what to do about it. Also, my system may run fine now for the rest of the week and then start having problems again on the weekend, it's just too random.

On Thursday last week I did a full format of my computer and reinstalled everything with the newest drivers and updates.

Last friday my system was running fine for over 24hours so I installed Nero 6.6 and it crashed after that. So I removed Nero again and the system ran fine until today, nothing changed. Over the weekend I was playing a lot of World of Warcraft which should have a high memory and cpu usage.

My system reset today at 4pm, I left for school at 3pm and logged off so the computer was at the logon screen when it reset so there shouldn't have been much running in the background.

Also, sometimes my taskbar sometimes takes up to 10 seconds to respond, like I close IE which closes instantly but it takes up to 10 seconds for it to disappear from the taskbar.

Here is every piece of hardware on my computer:

    AthlonXP 3200+
    Antec TruPower 430 PowerSupply
    Thermaltake Xaser 2 6000 Case
Asus A7N8X Deluxe MB (using nvidia onboard LAN)
    HIS Excalibur 9800 Pro
    Linksys WRT54G V2.2 Router
    1 GB Corsair PC3200
    27GB Maxtor DiamondMax HD 7200
    72GB Seagate HD 7200
    Soundblaster Audigy 2
    Samsung CDRW
    Sony DVDRW
    Sony TFT LCD
    HP PSC 2175 Printer
    Logitech LX500 keyboard/mouse

    ___________________________________________

I'll also e-mail Microsoft, maybe they got an idea (worth trying).

    Thanks

    try running check disk:

    start > run > cmd
in the new window just type: chkdsk/f
then choose Y to run on next boot & reboot
this will fix any basic faults on the disk

you also might want to start > search for nero & delete any leftovers.
do you have a registry cleaner?

just a personal opinion: nero causes alot of problems with xp

I got rid of every leftovers from Nero.

I also ran check disk but the system restarted 1 or 2 seconds (enough to see 4 bad sectors on my HD) after the summary showed up, is that normal?

Also, when I turned on my computer this morning it reset while loading windows and reset again right after.

This was the error I got:

I talked to some people at school and they all said it looks like it's either the harddrive or powersupply. My question now is, if it is the powersupply would I still get error messages in the Event Viewer?

    Thanks

My opinion? If it were your hard drive or power supply you wouldn't be navigating your XP.

Those errors are pointing to RAM but you said you checked that.

After chkdsk runs thru its 3 parameters it instantly reboots.

What anti virus are you running?

I see similar errors that required a re-installation of the AV.

Did you install any software with the new router? Uninstall old software?

I am using Symanted Corporate 9.0 AV which I did not install until 2 days ago, so I had the problems without it installed. Also, no new software with the router, the only thing that changed was my IP address.

The HD is what a lot of ppl at school told me. I downloaded the Seagate analysis software and put it on CD, but the system hangs when I try to boot from it.

I ran memtest86 again today for 10 hours, still no errors and no reboots during that time.

Anyway, going to remove my second hd and dvdrw and try to run the seagate software again. If it doesn't work I will use my "old" Maxtor hd and install windows on it and remove the Seagate.

I finally got the Seagate test to run (windows version at least) and got the following error:
