Media Player 10 crashes on me whenever I play streaming media. It will crash as the player it's self it will crash in IE and it will Crash IE it's self and even FIREFOX the samething happens. I tried posting a Log for hijack this and removed what the moderator there said to remove. And that didn't work still have the same problem. I even uninstalled Media Player 10 and dropped down to 9 and it still crashes. Some one help me? Is there a free pc fix program that detects all the things wrong with your computer and fix's them for you? I've seen one but you have to pay for it. If you could find an alternative solution than that please let me know I have no clue whats going on. This started happening over two months ago and I just let it go cause I was hoping that the up dates from ad-aware my pick something up after they are installed. But yet again nothing was found. Usually I can solve problems like these on my own but this one has got me baffeled.

any error messages? Have you looked in the Event Viewer?
start > run > eventvwr.msc

Any other video problems?
have you checked your video card drivers or modem drivers?
start > run > devmgmt.msc

what is your connection? I see some issues where the media player "speed" is in conflict with the modem.

you can try running check disk to check for errors:

start > run > cmd
in the new window type chkdsk/f
when propted to run on next boot choose Y
& it will run on next boot & fix any disk errors it finds.

There are numerous application errors and warnings in the Event Viewer. There are no display errors and I have tried adjusting the connection speed of media player i even set it to auto detect speed and still no good. Also actually it's not just media player that crashes its real player as well forgot to mention that. heres a screen shot of all the application errors and the warnings (Sorry that the images are big I don't have time to edit them).

How to use the scannow sfc tool in Windows XP

browsing those application hang 1001 1002 errors:

"Start > Run and type in: REGSVR32 URLMON.DLL , hit enter, click OK and reboot. Next,
go to IE/Tools/Internet Options/Programs/Reset Web Settings and click apply"

have found that some 3rd party toolbars added to Office or Internet Explorer can cause the problem. I had the same error come up and started removing software from control panel. I then started looking on the C: drive and found a directory called "c:\searchassistance" and ran the uninstall.htm. This brought up an html page with an uninstall button. I clicked uninstall. I then closed internet explorer and opened it again and everything was working great. So if you ever have problems with any application, first seek out any third party toolbars and remove them first before going through the headache of trying other things.

I received this error when I was running a 16-bit application. To resolve this, I let Windows control the pagefile size instead of manual pagefile size.

Looks like I found my solution in a bad RAM module. I have been up for 8 days with no iexplore faults or application hangs after taking one of my RAM chips out. I replaced the RAM chip and everything is fine now.

I do believe also it's a RAM module...had the same problem sometime ago with Media Player 9...removed one of the 128 MB chips n all is o.k.

I tried running the scannow sfc tool but it keeps asking me for the service pack 2 disc i even followed the instructions to make that disappear no good. anyway i can possibly get a disc from microsoft? also let me step back a bit and explain what happened. About two months ago my desktop started acting funny. I couldn't open any programs at all from my desktop or start menu. I was getting an error message saying I'm a limited user account. But when I went to check from my brothers desktop it said I was an admin. Weird huh? So I deleted my desktop. And made a new one. Ever since then. I've been having problems viewing streaming media on mine and another desktop. On the others they could view streaming media because I saw my brothers watching Red Vs. Blue. So yeah I don't know what's going on. I don't have access to a restore disc. But my teacher has a Corprate Restore Disc. So if it comes down to that I'll bring my computer to him and back up all my important files. But yeah thats the whole story. Any idea's? And remember I asked before if theres a way I can get a service pack 2 disc?

::EDIT:: Ok this is really weird. I just went to redvsblue.com to see if media player works from there. Well it does. But from any other places. It doesn't for example I went to the microsoft website to see if the interview video of bill gates with conan o'brien works and it crash's. I just tried viewing any video that is embedded into sites and internet explorer crashes. Samething with firefox. weird.

Order Windows XP Service Pack 2 on CD

this will install sp2 which you can also download. not sure how it would effect sfc /scannow as that would require the full xp disk.

just to clarify: when you refer to desktops; are these multiple users on one machine? or are you speaking of multiple machines?

have you tried creating a new admin account?

also have you tried right clicking the link & "save target as" to your disk?
can you then view it?

It's Multiple User's On One Machine And I've tried creating a new account with Admin privlidges and Same erro occurs I've tried saving the video to my desktop to view it but media player tries to view it and crashes. Would you like me to take screenshots of the technical data that gets recorded or would that be of no help?
