    re installing apc powerchute software.

I recently had a problem with my xp system and in the process I uninstalled the acp powerchute software. Upon fixing windows I went into control panel under power management and notced a tab for ups. I wet through the optins and set it but found that windows wouldn't recognize my unit.

I therefore tried to reinstall the powerchute software only to be told a previous version exists. Does anyone know how to get windows to allow me to install the poerchute program. TIA

If you still see it in add/ remove programs delete it there.

Also go to START > SEARCH & type in powerchute & delete all finds
& then clear your recycle bin as well.

Beyond that you may need to clean your registry but try these other steps first.

Jephree, Thanks, it did the trick. But now I'm back where I started. My screensaver quit working. I wish I could return the whole computer and start over, but I know that's not the solution..

    Know anything about screensavers?

sounds like maybe powerchute is changing things?

    what about the UPS settings?

are there options in the powerchute program or is it just setup software?

is your taskbar still effected? Start menu? anything else?

Is the computer under waranty? Sorry if that was asked before

Only options in parachute are to change the voltage sensors.

Taskbar and start menu are ok.

The warranty is a year from hp. but they are going to just format and reinstall windows. Which I've done numerous times.

what is exactly happening with the screensaver?

have you tried changing options in an attempt to reset new options?

do you have any other power options set?

sorry. The screen saver doesn't activate when the time is reached. Have tried different times and features. I don't have any other power options set other than windows default

    try setting screensaver to None

then set Power option to turn off monitor after 5 min (inactive) (just to see if that works)

also have you tried different screensavers? are you using xp SS or others?
