pc will freeze, maybe hardware lockup

    two problems here

1.) right a while ago i posted about how sometimes when im on msn and listening to music and on net etc ( nothing demanding) my pc would freeze up, sumtimes worse than others, sometimes it will freeze, screen will go black and then go back onto windows with the ati error report thing ( il try and get a screenshot )

other times tho when it freezes my screen will go black, and then i was get the message of my monitor saying no signal being received, other times the monitor will go black, and then my pc will just restart itself !!!!

as or when/how this started happening it used to only happen a few times wen i first got it ( maybe 6 months ago about?? ) but now its started happening more often and but it still very random ( sometimes happens twice or day or once every 2 weeks!)

no someone said somthing about ATI graphics cards having the hardware "lockup" and i went onto ati website read about it and they say will release somthing to fix it but still havnt!!

i dont think this is related to spyware as i quite often post my hijack this log and often run spybot

i think iv got most drivers up to date, such as ati graphics card, and i >think< i got my lastest motherboard driver but when i go on the FIC website, it asks me for my socket ( 478) and the model is p4m - 800t, i then go onto drivers and i get a list of things like audio, video, monitor, now i wen i go onto video i get the following choice ( see below ) how am i supposed to know which one?

    Directory: ATI 09:48:00
    Directory: INTEL_865 09:47:00
    Directory: INTEL_915 09:47:00
    Directory: SIS661 09:47:00
    File: SIS661.zip 17985 KB 09:41:00
    Directory: VIA 09:47:00

if you wanna see for yourself see below
    ftp://ftp.fic.com.tw/motherboard/dri...s_v1.27/VIDEO/

2.) sometimes wen my pc has been left on overnight ( sometimes not ) wen i load up my pc will freeze on the FIC load up ( blue screen with fic in the middle and intel inside on the bottom right ) it usualy last for about 10 seconds but wen it freezes you can tell coz lasts forever!!! want i have to do is turn it off at the mains and on again which usualy fixs it. any ideas why?

to me it sounds like both my problems are due to my motherboard . . . can anyone confirm?

    thanks guys

Does your graphics card get really HOT?

    To get further error messages:

You can turn off the feature that instructs XP to autostart on system
failure. Right click on My Computer and select Properties->Advanced
    Tab->Startup & Recovery section->Settings button->uncheck "Automatically
restart" Apply. This will give you a blue screen with info on it and you
will have to manually restart the computer. The info might give you an idea
whether or not the problem is hardware or software related.

Also check the Event Viewer for errors that relate to a freeze.
    Start > Run > eventvwr.msc
How To View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP

These errors can be deciphered here:
    http://www.eventid.net/search.asp

Also if it's only 6 months old what about a warranty?

As to the monitor: do you have the power setting set to shutdown after a certain period of inactivity?

ok, im not sure about how hot my graphics card gets, il take my casing off later and found out,

as for my monitor having auto power save it is NOT on so does NOT turn off after a certain time.

as for running eventvwr.msc i get quite a few warnings for system but i havnt got any kind of warning/ error for the time that it crashed ( my pc crashed at about 10:06 but there is nothing in eventvwr.msc at that time )

as for the warrenty i doubt tiny would do anything, iv already had a cd explode in my cd drive and had to send it off which they chargede me £30 for but i hassled until i got a refund!

in eventvwr.msc iv looked at the warnings and the source is tcpip, whats that?

    (screen shot below )

i did find this error in the event viewer that looks promising but doesnt offer solutions

    Details
    Product: Windows Operating System

below are some screen shots of A) all the warnings or the past few days and B ) all the errors in the last . . . weeks?

    Event Type: Warning

    0020: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ........

    Details
    Product: Windows Operating System
    ID: 4226
    Source: Tcpip
    Version: 5.2
    Symbolic Name: EVENT_TCPIP_TCP_CONNECT_LIMIT_REACHED
Message: TCP/IP has reached the security limit imposed on the number of concurrent (incomplete) TCP connect attempts.

    Explanation
The TCP/IP stack in Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2) installed limits the number of concurrent, incomplete outbound TCP connection attempts. When the limit is reached, subsequent connection attempts are put in a queue and resolved at a fixed rate so that there are only a limited number of connections in the incomplete state. During normal operation, when programs are connecting to available hosts at valid IP addresses, no limit is imposed on the number of connections in the incomplete state. When the number of incomplete connections exceeds the limit, for example, as a result of programs connecting to IP addresses that are not valid, connection-rate limitations are invoked, and this event is logged.

Establishing connection–rate limitations helps to limit the speed at which malicious programs, such as viruses and worms, spread to uninfected computers. Malicious programs often attempt to reach uninfected computers by opening simultaneous connections to random IP addresses. Most of these random addresses result in failed connections, so a burst of such activity on a computer is a signal that it may have been infected by a malicious program.

Connection-rate limitations may cause certain security tools, such as port scanners, to run more slowly.

    User Action
This event is a warning that a malicious program or a virus might be running on the system. To troubleshoot the issue, find the program that is responsible for the failing connection attempts and, if the program might be malicious, close the program as follows.

    To close the program

    At the command prompt, type
    Netstat –no
Find the process with a large number of open connections that are not yet established.
These connections are indicated by the TCP state SYN_SEND in the State column of the Active Connections information.
Note the process identification number (PID) of the process in the PID column.
Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE and then click Task Manager.
On the Processes tab, select the processes with the matching PID, and then click End Process.
If you need to select the option to view the PID for processes, on the View menu, click Select Columns, select the PID (Process Identifier) check box, and then click OK.

It was the VPU Recoverer that leads to a "heat" issue.

The Tcpip leads to worms & or:
This event is more than likely to appear if the user is running a P2P application (e.g. Emule, BitTorrent, Kazaa, etc.). Stopping the application will also stop this event from reappearing.

    The System Error 1003 suggests:
Most of the problems leading to this event indicate faulty hardware, bugs in device drivers or incompatible hardware.

A troubleshooting approach from a newsgroup post: "Boot from CD to start the Recovery Console, then read setuplog.txt, and setupapi.log, to see what happens when it boots.

Another newsgroup posts suggests that this error requires the debugger to look at the parameters of the error. Usually this is some hardware driver failure.

If you want debugging translating tools let us know.

Will keep searching your other errors but these seem prominent.
