so the 80 gig drive has gone from 0 to 32mb? how is it listed? i.e. healthy? system? file system?
what type of drive is it? is it configured as a slave on the same cable as the OS hard drive? did you use any third party software to install it? if not; did XP react to finding new hardware?
was the drive ever formatted?
-
Hello the slave drive is on the same cable as the original drive,
XP found new hard ware i had to run my recovery disc to restart my pc when the drive was first installed and i believe this is where the 32mb came from ive since formated this drive and still only shows a capacity of 32mb i didnt use any 3rd party software it looks like i need to go in the bios to set everything up something i was hoping to avoid.

sorry for just more questions but what kind of drive is it?
did it come with software?
why did you have to run your recovery disk when the drive was installed?
what do you plan to setup in the bios?

Hello again
the drive is a samsung there was no software with the drive.
yes i did have to run the recovery disc when the drive was installed

You will find Samsung software here:

You can make a bootable floppy to diagnose.
I am still curious why you had to run a recovery disk when you installed the drive.
Are you sure the jumpers are set right?

has the drive been in another PC I had a simalar problem when I put a 10GB slave it only reckonised 7MB cant remember what I did..........
I think I right clicke on the drive and choose format
I used file system NTFS and allocation unit size as 4096 bytes and it came up with 9.55GB
you could try that

Probably an old Bios that limits HDD size to max 32GB ?
Worth checking for Bios updates i think
