    Keyboard Issues

    Hey guys and girls,
I'm kind of a computer retard and have been having troubles with my computer all day and was looking for some help. Some of ym files were corrupted so I had to reload XP onto the computers. Everything was fine the first time I loaded it, but it reset and now the keyboard will not work aside from the letter a, which also causes the file taskbar to dropdown. I tried looking at the details under control panel and it says that the device is working fine. Anyone have any tips or knowledge they could help me with? It would be greatly appreciated.

    the keyboard was fine before?

go back to the control panel and try to update the keyboard driver.

    also perhaps check this:

Disable the voice recognition. Start/ Control Panel/
Regional and Language Options/ Languages Tab at the top
of the box/ Details button and remove all except the
    keyboard option.

What do you mean exactly by: " Everything was fine the first time I loaded it, but it reset..."

Windows was operating without a problem as well as the keyboard.

so by reset you mean you rebooted & then had the problem?

did you try the things above?

    any error messages?

look in the event viewer as well (under administrative tools) for errors

The laptop never came with any drivers, so I cant update them, and the languages tab was set to only the keyboard.
When i looked at the event viewer there were a bunch of errors there, but I have not received any error message popeps.
After I reloaded windows onto the laptop and started the comp. back up, everything worked fine. It was only on the subsequent reboot that the keyboard went haywire. I can open programs and everything else fine, it is just that aside from the a button(which drops down the file menu), nothing else works.

when you go to control panel > keyboard > hardware > properties
there is no driver tab there?

have you tried a system restore back to the reload point?

in the event viewer click on error line to get details. look for errors that relate to, say, the first reboot that caused the problem. (check the time).
post Source as well as Event ID as well as description.
