i am running win xp pro if that helps

    specs:
    amd atholon 2800 processer
    radeon 9600 vid card
    1gb pc something ram

try unplugging the computer, unplug/ replug the keyboard; mouse; monitor.

hold in the power button for a minuet (with computer unplugged)

    plug back in & try

when you say: "MOBO light turned on (a green light next to the yellow light that is always on)"; do you mean the yellow light is always on "now"? or was always on when things were ok?

make & model of computer please?

    absolutely no problems before this?

also: are you getting any BEEPS from the computer?

here is a thread that pretty well describes the process of trial by elimination of elements.

outside the case remove all printers scanners usb devices etc.
try to boot without the keyboard.

the next step is going inside: as the link describes remove video card & try to boot; remove RAM & try to boot; etc.

or it could be as simple as a dead battery

anyway here is the thread I mentioned:

    Boot Failure

ok, i unplugged the moniter, keyboard, mouse and printer. tried starting up. no luck.

tried reseating all of the cards, no luck.

pulled out vid card and rebooted. no luck

pulled out sound card and rebooted. no luck

pulled out both sticks of ram. and rebooted. no luck

tried my mom's HD on my computer. no luck again.

i really dont know what to do here from here on out...so ANY help would be greatly appreciated

no beeps during all these tries?
what about that yellow light? was it always on when things were ok? or just now that they are not?
    can you identify your motherboard?

& just to clarify: you went from everything being just fine to this total failure from one shutdown to the next boot? have you had any troubles previous to this?

im pretty sure the yellow light has always been on, and when istart up a green light comes on next to it and i remember that

yes, i shut it down and came back and it was messed up

i havent had any troubles prior to this.

someone i asked thinks it is the power supply, but i think you guys would know more than him.

identify it as in the model? im not exactly sure on that

i don't see how the power supply would be the problem since you say: "All the fans turned on and i can hear the harddrive humming in the computer."

a yellow light would usually come on during startup but would give way to green. a red light would indicate total failure (but still power).

there are a couple things you can try with the motherboard. remove the battery for like ten minuets. also reset the jumpers to clear the CMOS.
it would be helpful to ID the board to find the user manual unless you happen to have it. it would tell you how to do these things.

perhaps somewhere on the board there is a label of somekind?
