Unhappy My CD Drive will not recognise discs - Not even the ReBoot disc

I hope someone can help me with my little problem...

My PC has been playing up for a while - freezing in the middle of things, not defragging or letting me do a disc clean up - the programmes just do not respond.....

So - I was going to reboot it back to factory settings, but before I did, I tried burning a few tunes to CD. I don't know if I did it correctly, because the CD would not play afterwards.

I tried rebooting anyway, and the CD drive would not recognise the master reboot disc, or any other disc I tried.

I was so exasperated, I went out and bought a new PC...

Anyway - I put the old PC in the bedroom, plugged everything in, and it still wont reboot or recognise CD's - not at all!!!

As it is in the bedroom, it is not connected to the internet....If I can get it working again, I will network the two.

I have tried going into Safe Mode, & having a look around, and it says everything is working.

    Please, can someone help me???

    Thankies!!!

does your BIOS see your CD drive?
are you set to boot from CD?

by "the master reboot disc" you mean an xp disc?
you put this in the drive; then boot; then what happens?

in Safe Mode did you try a Restore or Last Good Configuration?

Hi - I have tried in Safe Mode Restore and Last Good Configuration...nothing...

I think it is my CD Drive...it's gone belly up....

Maybe it's time to get a new one, and figure out how to install it!!!
