Re: Please help - Hijackthis log

    owen, hello again.

I seem to have a much more serious problem this time. My laptop crashed yesterday after I had run a norton virus update (it was in the process of restarting). When It rebooted after the initial Toshiba screen the screen went blank with just a flashing underscore (_) in the top left hand corner of the screen. Nothing else happens. I have come back to the laptop several times but it always does this. I have also tried to boot the laptop in safe mode but it won't allow me to. I am writing this log on another computer.

Your help would be much appreciated again.

    Thanks

This isn't really one for security I don't think. I've moved it to XP Issues where someone should get your sorted.

Have you tried booting from your CD?

Try starting System Restore from the command prompt if you are unable to get to the command prompt from the start menu and your file system is fat 32 try booting to a 98 startup disk and then changing the directory to c and typing the following command.

    %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

If you can get System Restore started up choose a date before the onset of the problem and you should be good to go
