    Question can't download files

whenever i try to download files, the download starts followed by an error box pops up that says, "Internet Explorer was not able to open this internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later." aaaargh! what gives? i've tried messing with the security (i don't believe i have a firewall though) and it doesn't work even on the lowest security settings. i'm accepting all cookies. i installed a java program for my palm before all this started happening. i tried uninstalling it, but afterwards i get the same error message when i try to download anything. help!

any chance you have a restore point prior to that java install?

some downloads that bring up that error will work if you right click them and "save target as". but if it's happenning on all downloads something is set wrong.

here are some suggestions as to settings to check:

    Go to IE/Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/Uncheck Enable third-party browser
    extentions.

If you using any third party download manager, disable or uninstall. If you
are using a Firewall program, check the settings.
If you using an "Ad" filter program disable it and see if downloads work.

    Windows Explorer/Tools/Folder Options/File Types/[File Type in
Question]/Advanced. Put a check in the box that reads: Confirm open after
    download.

    Clean/clear out your Temp/TIF/cache files.
Temp Files: IE/Tools/Internet Options/Delete Temporary Internet Files
    Temp Files: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp

    Start/Run/CMD. Type this command: REGSVR32 URLMON.DLL. Ok/Reboot. Then go
    to: IE/Tools/Internet Options/Programs/Reset Web Settings.

Internet Explorer/Tools/Internet Options/Connections Tab Click on LAN
Settings/Uncheck the Automatically detect settings Make sure no other
settings on this screen are enabled.

Go to Tools/Internet Options/Connections/Lan Settings in IE6 and you
will have a checkmark under "Proxy Server" if you are using one.
