Looks like you've got the CoolWebSearch trojan. It's very common - I had it myself a few weeks ago until the guys in the Security message board sorted it out for me.
Run HiJackThis again and place a check next to the following items to fix them:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\xzcko.dll/sp.html#29126
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\xzcko.dll/sp.html#29126
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = res://C:\WINDOWS\xzcko.dll/sp.html#29126
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\xzcko.dll/sp.html#29126
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\xzcko.dll/sp.html#29126
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://C:\WINDOWS\xzcko.dll/sp.html#29126
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://C:\WINDOWS\xzcko.dll/sp.html#29126
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = about:blank
O16 - DPF: {386A771C-E96A-421F-8BA7-32F1B706892F} (Installer Class) - http://www.xxxtoolbar.com/ist/softwa...06_regular.cab
Reboot and run HijackThis again, post a fresh log and let us know if you still have the problem.
-
Here is the new log but I still seem to have the same problems. Home Search appears as my homepage and other random searches download without prompt.

Do you know what this is?
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Mlfvkars] C:\WINDOWS\System32\zckz.exe
I've done a web search but can't find any reference to that executable file that's being loaded each time you start up.
-
Run HiJackThis again and place an entry next to the following items to remove them:
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.05p.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.blazefind.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.flingstone.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.mt-download.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.my-internet.info
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.searchbarcash.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.searchmiracle.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.slotch.com
They are either porn sites, search engine sites that you probably don't want to be using or they are sites that don't appear to work anyway - all probably added to Trusted Zones by the trojan and malware that you've picked up.
-
And do you know what these are? They are also loading up executable files each time your computer starts up but I can't find any reference to them on the 'net:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [atlfm32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\atlfm32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [biakbqhxro] C:\WINDOWS\System32\aahuih.exe
-
I have no idea what they are. I still have this rubbish Home Search on my PC. They seem to go and then reinstall themselves. I will post the log again. I do appreciate all the help.

I think i had something similar to this last week. I ended up on a site while trying to look for a free download of an mp3 tool i wanted. My home page default changed to www.somethingsearch.com and the homepage option in IE options became greyed-out and i got multi-pop-ups. I first of all ran Hijack this and deleted all the entries that i couldnt relate to the trusted apps on my system, and deleted anything that contained part of a web address that i didnt recognise. I then ran spy-bot and deleted everything that didnt seem important. i then stopped any processes that seemed alien. then i deleted a folder from my Program Files folder that i didnt recognise (if your not sure, copy and paste the .exe name into goodle and search. read through other forums to see if your process relates to spy/adware. After all this i emptyed the recycle bin.
I noticed that my home page now said 'about:blank' and that i could not change this. after lots of searching about, i found that in spybot there is an option that allows you to lock your home page!! the spyware changes the home page but doesnt take the lock off. to do this, open spybot, go to 'immunize' and at the bottom youll see 'Lock IE start page settings against user changes'. you need to untick this, then via control panel go to 'internet options' and change your home page.
i then did a bin empty, and did the complete same process in-case i missed anything.
Not the most perfect way, but its worked for me everytime. If your not sure, check what you see either using google or following the path, and if your still not sure, do as youve been doing.
-
Sounds like good advice Jen. When I had the CoolWebSearch trojan, I had to use a similar process. Just as you said Joe, mine kept coming back after each reboot but, after running this full ritual a couple of times a day for a few days, it seemed to give up and I've been OK since then!
1. Run HiJackThis and remove the following entries:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\xzcko.dll/sp.html#29126
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\xzcko.dll/sp.html#29126
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = res://C:\WINDOWS\xzcko.dll/sp.html#29126
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\xzcko.dll/sp.html#29126
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\xzcko.dll/sp.html#29126
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://C:\WINDOWS\xzcko.dll/sp.html#29126
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://C:\WINDOWS\xzcko.dll/sp.html#29126
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
2. Run Spybot Search & Destroy and let it do whatever it wants.
3. I also ran Adaware 6 and let it delete everything that it found.
Let us know how you get on with that Joe
