Norton Compromised, spyware trys to install

Yesterday When i went to a website, some spyware was detected by microsoft beta spyware software and then i saw the dam spyware get on my pc. A couple of [bad spyware] process loaded, and a new search bar, usual spyware stuff. Since Microsoft's antispy dinnt take care of it, i went to run adware, before i even click on adware, norton says its encountered a internal program error and has to be reinstalled. So i diconnect from the net, and uninstall norton. Then i reinstall it. At the end of the install i try and run norton and nothing happens. None of its process are even loaded. (ccapp etc) After restart, it still wont run. Right now im gonna scan with avg and hope i dont have any viruses. BUt id like to get norton back on. Any way to do this?

    What was the spyware/ toolbar?

    What is your Norton Product?

You can search Norton's Knowledge Base here: (or let us know)

    http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/consumer.html

When you initially uninstalled did you do it thru control panel add/ remove?

Did you search for any "left-overs" before re-installing?

    Re-boot between uninstall & re-install?

I have solved most of my problems by downloading hjack this and posting the log to some dudes who showed me wat to remove. However i still cannot get norton to work, but its not really a big deal. Im using avg which i have used before and is a comptent AV. I sort of like it better as it doesnt have nortons crash problems. In case its helpful later to you:

the spyware installed was a combo of coolwebseach type stuff, and a bunch of other stuff.

I had checked out the norton database but they dont really have anything covering when Norton wont install correctly. In my case: There isnt a error message produced it just will not run. (but it does appear to install correctly)

I did use add/remove to uninstall it and I did reboot etc like it said.

Thanks for the reply though. You can close this thread now.
