welcome itrkulja to dal the online computer help forum
Windows 98/ME Windows 2000 and windows xp all ship as standard with a Quick Launch Toolbar next to the Start Button, which contains a shortcut icon to Internet Explorer (IE), Outlook Express (OE), and a show desktop (minimize all windows) icon. So where is it in Windows XP?
By default, WinXP does not display the Quick Launch toolbar, but you can add it back in with ease. There are two ways. First, you can right click the Task Bar, choose Properties, and then check next to "Show Quick Launch." Another way is to right click the Taskbar, select Toolbars> and the select Quick Launch. Either way, the familiar Quick Launch toolbar will appear, with (by default) an IE, Show Desktop, and a Windows Media Player icon.
hope this helps

Thank you for your prompt reply!
I know how to add the Quick Launch bar but the thing is that every time I switch my PC on I have to do it over and over again. In other words if I add it now and I restart the PC the bar may not display on the Toolbar, for some reason it disapears.
Any more ideas please?
I quote this exchange from the linked thread:
quick launchQuick launch Icons on the taskbar keep disappearing each
time I start my PC/OP, and the problem in the
option "show quick launch" of the taskbar properties that
keeps un-checking, in another word the system is not
saving the ticked box in the Taskbar and Start Menu
Properties.

Quick Launch: Won't remain checked/present nor retains the sort order
Either check your settings here:
Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon.
In the right pane under Userinit, Change the key to read:
C:\Windows\System32\Userinit.exe,
Or download and run the reg file on line 263 (right hand side)

Tip:
To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.
To use the VBS Files: Download .vbs file and save it to your hard drive (you
may want to right click and use Save Target As). Double click the vbs
file. You will be prompted when the script is done.

Thanks Spud / Jephree. I also need to add the Quick Launch bar to my Sales Director's new laptop that I gave her on Friday afternoon. I'm not very familiar with Windows XP and didn't know how to do it - cheers for the info![]()
Thanks Jephree, I will tray one of the recommended solutions and let you know if it worked.
Cheers,
Ilija
Jephree,
I tried changing the registry key as you explained but the key already reads:
C:\Windows\System32\Userinit.exe,
as it should.
Any more ideas?
Thanks!
if you have more than one account set up; does this problem occur on all accounts?
try this: set the quick launch on then run this app.
Save Settings on Exit (Line 54)
