    Hard Drive Not Recognized

    Hi,

I need help!! I recently caught a virus called multidropper-jz. I cleaned it up with McCaffe and Norton 2005. When I put my pc on, I noticed that my 80G hard drive was not there. It is not recognized at all. My 120G and 40G are there, but my 80G with all of my important documents is not showing up. I even tried it on my brothers machine and it still is not being recognized. If someone can help me I would appreciate it greatly...And, if it works 100% after you help me, I will compensate you via PayPal, PROMISE!!! Contact me directly at Redscorpion25@aol.com

    Thank you,
    Danielle

Was this drive working ok before the cleanup?

When you tried it on the other machine are you sure it was set right as far as master/ slave/ jumpers etc.?

I would suggest downloading the drive diagnostic utility for your make of drive to test the drive. Here is a list of the major manufacturers utilities:

    Hey,

Yes it was working fine before the clean-up. Everything was set up perfect on the other machine as well. It recognizes it in the device manager, but not in my computer. It says that it is unallocated, which most likely means that everything is gone. I think I might have to get it fixed professionally, all I want are my important documents back, if they're still there...

Thank you so much for responding

    Hi,

Yeah, it shows up in the device manager, but it says it's unallocated. I'm guessing that means empty? Not sure though...I have a Maxtor 80G

Power Max is Maxtor's diagnostic for what it's worth:

    (see next post)

    Also here's a page of data recovery sites;

    data recovery

This one has a free trial to view but not recover data:

    http://www.ontrack.com/easyrecoverylite/

Recover deleted files with freeware downloads Free Trial - Identifies and allows you to view the deleted files and corrupted documents that are recoverable with a full edition of EasyRecovery Lite with a 25 file per session limitation.

    Hey,

Oddly enough, I had the program ontrack on my Maxtor hard drive lololol. I am going to see if I can download that program again, if not I'll just give in and take it to get fixed. Thank you so much for your help...

Can you use Windows XP Utility to restore your system to before the cleanup
    Start
    Accessories
    System Tools
System Restore (Windows XP won't allow restore points of a corrupted system OR visa versa) It is another way to troubleshoot the stability of your system (to be able to successfully manually set a restore point)

    Hi,

Actually, McCaffe advised that I delete all restore points due to the virus. But I just installed a program called Ontrack recovery, and it recognized my problem and hard drive. All I have to do is let it repair my files (takes about an hour or so) and it should restore all of my files.

Thank you to everyone who tried to help me. I really appreciate you taking the time...

    Danielle
