Unhappy Disk Boot Failure, Insert System Disk & Press Enter

    Hi.

Please refer to Phez-boys: I need a system disk that works! thread. I think HippyWarlock knows the answer.

Basically I keep getting (on boot) the error message: DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK & PRESS ENTER. My bios isn't recognising my hard disks but is recognising my DVD drives.

Before crashing into a state of complete failure, i ran Norton Sysworks and it all seemed pretty bad. Last error message received before collapse was BACKUP EVERYTHING or something like that but then just shutdown.

I find it hard to believe that both hard disks a screwed because one is brand new and hasn't really been used.

I have tried to update my bios as recommened by a thread somewhere but this hasn't worked and hasn't really seemed to do anything.

I have seen a product called 'Hard Drive Mechanic' that reckons it can fix the problem. Can anyone please help me!

Just to test things I would first disconnect the older drive & make sure the new drive is set to be master; then see if the bios sees that.

You could also take the connection to your DVD and try that on the hard drive just to see if the bios sees that.

Check board connections ... somehow you gotta get the bios to see the drive.

When you say you "tried" to update the bios, did you have any problem with that update? or did you successfully update?

Phez-boys: I need a system disk that works! thread. Seemed to peter off into a bit of a side issue.

    Follow jephree's tips.

Hi, i have the exact same problem, except i cant get anywhere like windows to update anything.

i checked my hard drive works using another computer, so i dont think its the hard drive. i have a EPoX 8k3a+ motherboard, im starting to think it has something to do with that, ive tried swapping cables and everything, mine picks up the cd drives but not the hard drive.

    *checks that other thread.

It's best if you start your own thread Aj. And post more details. Is this a new problem? Did the computer in question ever work properly? Did the BIOS ever see the HDD? Can you boot your XP CD? What is your HDD make? (You can create a floppy boot diagnostic downloadable from their web site). etc. Did you do something to the computer before you started having problems? Changes? Hardware? Software?
