Removing Item from Desktop
Another irritation! I downloaded the file mscoree.zip to my desktop to fix a program on my laptop (as it turns out I didn't need it!). I can't now delete this file from the desktop. If I hover over it it doesn't show any information and if I try to delete it (either by right clicking or highlighting and clicking delete), Explorer sits with the hourglass not moving for about ten minutes then says "not responding". I have searched the registry for mscoree.zip but its "not found". I can delete anything else I wish but not this one.
Any ideas friends?

Does it show up in the list of desktop icons when you run the 'desktop cleanup wizard'?

'Fraid not - BUT I have solved the problem by the very simple means of dragging the icon to the recycle bin (and then emptying the bin). Why do I always look for the difficult answer? It doesn't explain the reason why I couldn't delete the icon by other conventional means but thanks for the speedy response.
Happy new year.

You might want to try booting your computer up in Safemode and see if you are able to delete the file. Or if you have Windows ME or XP you could us system restore to go back to a date before you downloaded the file.
