Red face XP installation problem, monitor powers down

I just installed Windows XP Professional on my computer. All seems to go well with files being copied. It cycles through several times installing everything. The computer reboots again, the Windows XP screen comes up with the loading line. The Windows XP screen goes black as if the next screen would pop up. The monitor then powers down, from green light to red. You can still here the computer hard drive working, then nothing. I've run though the fix mode and even reinstall with the same results. I was running Windows Me before with no problems. Can anyone give me any ideas on what to do.

See if you can get into Safe Mode.

After the BIOS POST start tapping the F8 key.

Is your monitor plugged into a graphics card?

Do you remember having monitor settings under ME? Hybernate?

You may be in a "hybernation loop"; to stop this shut off your computer & actually unplug the power cord for a few minuets.

Make sure PNP setting in your BIOS is set to NO.

    Also:
Boot the computer (via F8) to "Enable VGA Mode".
Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs.
    - Find your video driver package & uninstall
While in Control Panel, go to System, Hardware
Device Manager. Expand (Click +) besides Video
-Any devices listed, Right Click, Choose Uninstall
Reboot the Machine - It will re-detect your video card
    Re-install the drivers
Go back to Device Manager and change your monitor
    definition to the correct vendor/model.

This is what I did and the results

I was able to boot to safe mode, everything worked as it should in safe mode.
(The monitor is connected to a video card)
I unplugged the power from the computer, no change
Changed PNP to no, no change
Booted to safe mode, entered by "Enable VGA Mode". Worked fine
It prompted me to change the setting, which I did. I shut down the computer for a few minutes.
I turned the computer back on and away I go. Now all I need to do is figure out how to navigate NT
    Thanks for the help
